Weekly Photo Challenge: Orange

It’s a color challenge this week. I don’t do these very often, but I seem to have brought back a whole lot of orange from India and it’s got me seeing the color everywhere. This week the challenge is to….

Photograph the Color Orange

It’s spring around my area of the world, but even so, I don’t see that much orange. Maybe your garden has some nice examples.

Gardens after the Rain

As with any color, once I start looking for it, I see it everywhere, on walls, murals, scarves. I didn’t notice the orange while I was in India, but once I started post-processing images, I was seeing orange.

I even call this photo Varanasi Orange because the color was such a prominent part of the photo.

If you want to play around with the color a bit, check out these 24 shades of orange. Maybe it’s time for a photographic scavenger hunt. If nothing else, you will be able to be really specific about which shade of orange you’re photographing! I think the holy man above is wearing pumpkin.

I even had a nice orange wall in last week’s challenge about Found Art. I just can’t get away from it!

The color and graphics of this image make it one of my favorites and set the tone for my limited edition collection. I feel it shows what I love in a photo – color, texture and just a hint of travel in the artistic Florence graffiti.

Orange isn’t one of my favorite colors, but I am from Colorado and my family are big Denver Bronco fans, so if you want to add a bit of blue to the orange, I’d love it! Blue and orange are complementary colors, so there’s a reason they go together so well.

I spent a couple of days in Miami espcially to photograph these colorful lifeguard towers along Miami Beach. Each one is different in color and shape. Photos available for purchase at Wits End Photography. Follow my blog Traveling at Wits End for ways to create travel adventures everyday.

I’ve got quite a few photos of orange architecture and orange signs – neon is particularly nice in orange and traffic cones are a lovely shade of orange if you can find a way to make them photographically interesting.

Statues in front of the Glasgow art museum are rarely without their orange hats.

Be on the lookout! The color orange shows up in some unexpected places, like pipes in this oil refinery – next to a lovely shade of blue.

Orange & Blue Industrial

It’s a nice time of the year so maybe take a bit of time to enjoy a local sunset – maybe you’ll get lucky and it will be a nice orange sunset.
